I added a shower inside my bedroom!

A 3-BEDROOM HOUSE WITH NO MASTER BATHROOM?!?

Well, check it out. My very own shower (and a pretty fancy one at that!). And we put it IN the bedroom. See the story.

I know its hard to visualize this. It was even harder to photograph it. The only thing that proves that this is the same space is the window in the background. See it?

A FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT MINI? WHAT?

When I found my house, almost 4 years ago, it was love at first site. It was a Frank Lloyd Wright mini (which just means 'they' copied FLW's plans), in a gorgeous neighborhood and with a pool. The part that I didn't love, which was almost a deal-breaker, was that there was only one full bathroom. See that room up on top of the roof in the photo below. That's the "master" bedroom with only a half bath!

Well, I guess it wasn't a deal breaker. I bought the house and we have adored it. But, sharing a bathroom with my 3 kids downstairs was getting really old. So Lance and I decided to try to figure out how to add a bathroom upstairs without changing the footprint.

It would have been too expensive to add it outside of the existing walls. Plus we'd have to deal with permits.

SO, WE PUT THE SHOWER INSIDE THE BEDROOM.

We realized that the space heading into the bathroom was pretty much dead space. So why not put the shower inside the room and enclose it?

AND HERE'S WHAT THE INSIDE LOOKS LIKE.

The vanity and toilet needed to trade places because it seemed strange to walk into the bathroom and walk past the toilet to get to the vanity. Somehow this opened things up a bit which enabled us to get a larger vanity.

Drum roll, please. Here is my new shower! We did it super basic with white subway tile. Grout is Delorean Gray. We turned them on their sides, just for something different. — Drum roll, please. Two of my favorite attributes of the new shower. The window, which lets so much light in. It was Lance's idea. I can't take any credit. I love it and think it's brilliant. We used a slightly smaller sized rain shower head that has been lowered slightly so I can adjust it. And this cute little niche for soap and stuff.

Can I just say that these tiles are (shhh) from Home Depot. I know, right? They are very inexpensive and have a great matte texture. Seriously good find.

Here's the whole wall so you can see the space it takes up in the room. It actually makes a cozy spot for my dresser.

I bought it in Mexico from this very eccentric woman who had an incredible selection of antiques. This one is a couple hundred years old from China. It even has the stickers inside to prove it.

This is another one of my Mexican treasures. You'll see that I'm a bit obsessed with Mexican folk art. I'm still amazed that it made the trek from Mexico in tact.

Lincoln Avenue: Disaster of the Week

So, the electrician was doing his stuff at the house. When he got to the back corner and tried to drill holes through the studs, there was nothing to drill into. Water damage from overflowing gutters led to dry rot and termites. Ugh.
